Helping minority students access higher education

Assistant Professor of Health and Physical Science
Director of Recruitment and Diversity, College of Education
Hispanic Student Association Faculty Advisor

Sam Lopez, Ph.D.

Dr. Sam Lopez is a pioneer in educational diversity at UNK. As a project director of the federal “Access to Higher Education” program, he helps minority students prepare for college. Tutoring, summer programs and family campus visits help ensure the success of these students, many of whom will be the first in their family to attend college.

“Access to Higher Education” is funded from a grant received from the U.S. Department of Education to increase access to higher education among Hispanics and other minorities in Nebraska. The project responds to a growing need for support to ensure all students have appropriate educational goals and the resources to meet those goals.
