Using gene therapy to develop non-toxic cancer treatments
Director, Eppley Cancer Center
Eppley Institute for Cancer Research

Dr. Kenneth Cowan is leading the Eppley Cancer Center to the next level in treatment/research. A world leader in cancer gene therapy, his pioneering work transferring drug-resistant genes into bone marrow cells before transplant demonstrated the feasibility of incorporating new genes into patients. There is hope that this will lead to the development of non-toxic therapies to treat cancer.
“We see the fruits of the research,” Cowan says. “It’s led to a decrease in the incidence of cancer and an increase in survival of patients who develop cancer. We believe this is just the beginning.”
