University of Nebraska President James B. Milliken and Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman will join to kick off Collegebound Nebraska Week on Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at 9:30 a.m.The event will be held at the Van Brunt Visitors Center, 313 N. 13th St. on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus. It will be live-streamed online at http://real.unl.edu/live_3/.
Milliken and Heineman will announce new growth in Collegebound Nebraska, the university’s tuition assistance program; and progress in the campaign to promote the program – including new participation by former Husker athletes – so that more students and families take advantage of the opportunity to pursue a college degree. In addition, the Governor will officially proclaim the week as Collegebound Nebraska Week.
Sandy Ngo, a UNL student who is receiving tuition assistance through Collegebound Nebraska, also will speak. Ngo is one of about a dozen Collegebound Nebraska student ambassadors representing all four campuses who are helping to promote the program.
The university plans a number of events throughout the week to celebrate and raise awareness of Collegebound Nebraska, including high school visits by several NU chancellors and social media promotion.
Collegebound Nebraska guarantees that qualifying Nebraska students who meet the university’s admission requirements can attend one of the four NU campuses and pay no tuition. Generally, a student from a family of four with one in college and an annual income of $53,000 or less will qualify. For more information, visit www.collegeboundnebraska.com.
