"I am very pleased that the president made innovation and competitiveness key elements of his speech, and I strongly support his plan for doubling research funding for physical sciences, making permanent the R&D tax credit, and increasing the investment in high school math and science programs. In addition, his leadership on research and development of alternative fuels, including ethanol, will provide an important boost for a much-needed national energy strategy to reduce our dependence on foreign oil."
