We recognize the uncertainty of the current economic situation, and appreciate the challenge faced by the Governor and Legislature. We agree with the Governor that education, including the University of Nebraska, is among the state's most important priorities, even in a difficult economy.

The University of Nebraska is key to the long-term economic health of Nebraska and its citizens, and continued investment is essential to provide for affordable access to education and research that benefits our state. State funding has had a direct impact on tuition, as we saw during the earlier part of this decade.

Our goal, which we know is shared by the Governor and Legislature, is to maintain the quality and great momentum of the University, while keeping tuition affordable for Nebraska families. We look forward to continuing to work with the Governor and Legislature to accomplish this.
