The University of Nebraska announced today that it will appeal salary increases and a new insurance benefit awarded to faculty members at the University of Nebraska at Omaha who are represented by the American Association of University Professors (AAUP).

The University's final offer in collective bargaining negotiations was 2.9 percent in 2009-10 and 2.5 percent in 2010-11; the university made no offer to increase life insurance coverage. A special master award granted UNO faculty members 3.8 percent salary increases for each of the next two years as well as a life insurance benefit with a face value equal to the base salary of the AAUP member, not to exceed $120,000. The university estimated the potential cost of the new insurance benefit at $2 million. The appeal will be filed with the Commission of Industrial Relations.
