Statement from Regent Kent Schroeder
Regent Kent Schroeder, Chairman of the University of Nebraska Board of Regents, issued the following statement today regarding an opportunity for public comment at the Board meeting on October 23, 2009.

"The University of Nebraska Board of Regents, as part of its review and consideration of new National Institutes of Health guidelines regarding human embryonic stem cell research, will provide an opportunity for public comment at its meeting on October 23, 2009.

While University policy requires adherence to all applicable state and federal laws, regulations and guidelines, there has been some question about whether the Board should take action to restrict research at the University further than required by state and federal law. The Board will set aside a specific period at the October meeting to receive public comment.

Persons wishing to speak must contact the Office of the Corporation Secretary at least 24-hours in advance of the meeting. The Board's usual rules regarding individual time limits and nonrepetitive statements will be followed.
