10/19/2012 NU President, Governor To Kick Off College Bound Nebraska Week

University of Nebraska President James B. Milliken and Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman will join to kick off Collegebound Nebraska Week on Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at 9:30 a.m.The event will be held at the Van Brunt Visitors Center, 313 N. 13th St. on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus. It will be live-streamed online at http://real.unl.edu/live_3/.

10/19/2012 Dr. Samuel Meisels, national leader in early childhood education, named executive director of NU’s Buffett Early Childhood Institute

Dr. Samuel J. Meisels, one of the nation’s leading authorities on the assessment of young children and early childhood development, has been named the founding executive director of the University of Nebraska’s Buffett Early Childhood Institute, NU President James B. Milliken announced today. Meisels, currently president of Erikson Institute in Chicago, the country’s premier graduate school in child development, will begin at the University of Nebraska on June 1, 2013. Prior to that date he will assist the university in beginning to develop staffing, strategy and other plans.

10/11/2012 University of Nebraska, USSTRATCOM to partner on University-Affiliated Research Center

The University of Nebraska announced today that it has entered into a long-term partnership with the United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) at Offutt Air Force Base to create a University-Affiliated Research Center (UARC). The UARC will serve as a primary research and development center that supports USSTRATCOM’s missions to deter and detect strategic attacks against the United States and its allies, and to defend the nation as directed.

09/07/2012 Presidential Professor lecture series on art and the mind begins Sept. 11-12
The University of Nebraska’s new Visiting Presidential Professor, renowned scholar, curator and author Jonathan Fineberg, begins his 2012-13 lecture series on art and the mind Sept. 11-12 in Lincoln and Omaha. The lectures – the first in a four-part series – will be delivered at the Sheldon Museum of Art, 12 and R streets in Lincoln, at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 11; and at KANEKO, 1111 Jones St., at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 12. The lectures are free and open to the public, and will each be followed by a reception. Tuesday’s lecture also will be live-streamed online at www.nebraska.edu.
08/31/2012 University of Nebraska enrollment holds steady
The University of Nebraska announced today that NU’s enrollment is holding steady this year, with 50,180 students on the four campuses plus the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture. That figure represents a 0.4 percent decrease compared to fall 2011.

University of Nebraska President James B. Milliken has announced the seven recipients of 2012-13 Presidential Graduate Fellowships. These prestigious fellowships honor a select group of NU graduate students each year on the basis of high scholastic performance and personal accomplishment. Fellows receive a stipend provided through the University of Nebraska Foundation that allows them to pursue their studies full-time.
