The University of Nebraska and Ataturk University in Erzurum, Turkey, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding that strengthens the long-term partnership between the two institutions and lays the groundwork for expanded faculty collaborations and student exchanges.

11/28/2012 NU President Milliken names UNMC chancellor search committee

University of Nebraska President James B. Milliken has named a search committee for the next chancellor of the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Current Chancellor Harold Maurer, who assumed the position in 1998 and has led the campus through a period of extraordinary growth, has announced his plans to step down on June 30 to lead fundraising efforts for UNMC’s cancer center project.

In advance of International Education Week, going on now, Gov. Dave Heineman and University of Nebraska President James B. Milliken joined to host welcome events for new international students at the four campuses and celebrate NU’s continued growth in international student enrollment.

10/29/2012 Presidential Professor lecture series on art and the mind continues Oct. 30-Nov. 1

The University of Nebraska’s Visiting Presidential Professor, renowned scholar, curator and author Jonathan Fineberg, continues his 2012-13 lecture series on art and the mind Oct. 30 and Nov. 1 in Lincoln and Omaha. The lectures – the second in a four-part series – will be delivered at the Sheldon Museum of Art, 12th and R streets in Lincoln, at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 30; and at KANEKO, 1111 Jones St. in Omaha, at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 1. The lectures are free and open to the public, and will each be followed by a reception.

10/22/2012 University of Nebraska celebrates Collegebound Nebraska Week

The University of Nebraska today kicked off its first-ever Collegebound Nebraska Week, a coordinated effort to raise awareness about the financial aid program so that more qualifying students can take advantage of the opportunity to attend one of the four NU campuses and pay no tuition.

The University of Nebraska Board of Regents will meet Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at Varner Hall, 3835 Holdrege St. in Lincoln. Committee meetings begin at 8:30 a.m. and the Board meeting begins at noon. All meetings are open to the public. Meetings also will be audio-streamed live at www.nebraska.edu.

University of Nebraska President James B. Milliken and Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman will join to kick off Collegebound Nebraska Week on Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at 9:30 a.m.The event will be held at the Van Brunt Visitors Center, 313 N. 13th St. on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus. It will be live-streamed online at http://real.unl.edu/live_3/.

10/19/2012 Dr. Samuel Meisels, national leader in early childhood education, named executive director of NU’s Buffett Early Childhood Institute

Dr. Samuel J. Meisels, one of the nation’s leading authorities on the assessment of young children and early childhood development, has been named the founding executive director of the University of Nebraska’s Buffett Early Childhood Institute, NU President James B. Milliken announced today. Meisels, currently president of Erikson Institute in Chicago, the country’s premier graduate school in child development, will begin at the University of Nebraska on June 1, 2013. Prior to that date he will assist the university in beginning to develop staffing, strategy and other plans.

10/11/2012 University of Nebraska, USSTRATCOM to partner on University-Affiliated Research Center

The University of Nebraska announced today that it has entered into a long-term partnership with the United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) at Offutt Air Force Base to create a University-Affiliated Research Center (UARC). The UARC will serve as a primary research and development center that supports USSTRATCOM’s missions to deter and detect strategic attacks against the United States and its allies, and to defend the nation as directed.
