NU President Hank Bounds to visit Husker Harvest Days, Grand Island, Kearney

University of Nebraska President Hank Bounds will continue his travels around the state on Tuesday, Sept. 15, with stops at Husker Harvest Days in Wood River and other events in Grand Island and Kearney. Members of the news media are invited to cover Bounds’ travels.

Bounds will begin his day on Tuesday at Husker Harvest Days, the working farm show that includes 600 exhibitors featuring the latest agricultural products and innovations. As it has every year since Husker Harvest Days debuted in 1978, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources will have a significant presence at the show, with exhibits focused on the impact of climate change on farms, ranches and in everyday life.

Bounds will tour the university exhibits and take in other sights of the show. He will be available for media interviews at 10:30 a.m. in the UNL Husker Red building, located at Lot 321 on the south side of the exhibit grounds.

Following Husker Harvest Days, Bounds will stop in Grand Island, where he will speak to a joint luncheon of the city’s rotary and chamber groups. The luncheon is at noon at the Riverside Golf Club, 2820 Riverside Dr. Members of the media are welcome to attend.

Bounds next will travel to Kearney, where he will meet with student leaders at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and then make opening remarks at the “Transdisciplinary Conversations” event co-hosted by NU’s Rural Futures Institute and Robert B. Daugherty Water for Food Institute. “Transdisciplinary Conversations” is an event series focused on fostering collaboration among NU faculty from different disciplines and across campuses. The Kearney event is from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the UNK Alumni House, 2222 9th Ave. It is free and open to the public, including members of the media.

Since becoming NU’s president in April, Bounds has spent time traveling the state to learn about Nebraska’s communities and people and listen to citizens about their goals for their university. In addition to his physical travels, Bounds earlier today announced a social media listening tour that invites Nebraskans to share questions and ideas with him on Twitter. Nebraskans can participate by using the hashtag #PrezUnplugged; Bounds will share responses from his personal account, @hankbounds. The social media tour will conclude on Sept. 30, after which Bounds will select two conversations to be continued with him in person at the Husker football game against Northwestern.

Nebraskans can keep up with Bounds by following him on Twitter or by visiting his website at
