There was lots of action, but not much controversy, on the budget bills this week.

On Tuesday, the budget package advanced from general file to select file. On Thursday, the package of bills was voted on and advanced to final reading. The entire package should be ready to be acted upon on final reading mid-week next week.

No changes were made to the University's proposed appropriation which still remains at an increase of 1.5% in each year of the biennium.

There was more bad economic news yesterday when it was reported that receipts for the month of April were $37 million below projections. It is not anticipated that this news will impact on what is currently before the Legislature, but if the trend continues there might be negative repercussions either later this fall or early next year.
