The ceremony will include an exciting announcement related to funding for the new Educare center. Ceremony speakers include Susie Buffett, chair of the Buffett Early Childhood Fund; Jessie Rasmussen, president of the Buffett Early Childhood Fund; Governor Dave Heineman; University of Nebraska President James B. Milliken; Kathy Danek, president of the Lincoln Board of Education; Shirley Pickens-White, chair of the Community Action Partnership’s Head Start Policy Council; Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler; and Barb Bartle, president of the Lincoln Community Foundation.
Educare centers are specially designed learning schools that serve at-risk infants, toddlers and pre-school aged children. There are 13 Educare centers around the United States, including two highly successful centers at Kellom and Indian Hill elementary schools in Omaha.
Educare partners are the Buffett Early Childhood Fund, Lincoln Public Schools, University of Nebraska and the Community Action Partnership of Lancaster and Saunders Counties.
