Deb and her staff review about 700 grants and contracts per year, with about 400 of those being awarded. It is high-stress, detailed work, but she finds it rewarding and challenging because it helps faculty members obtain funding needed to pursue their investigations.

A native of Makoti, North Dakota and a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Deb was a research administrator at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio before joining the UNMC staff.

UNMC’s external funding has increased 23 percent in the past year, exceeding $50 million annually. Deb is currently working to develop an e-grant system to increase efficiency and accuracy in the grant application process.
