A hallmark of all great universities is effective shared governance - involvement of the faculty in all significant policy decisions. This requires someone to coordinate the operations of the Academic Senate, ensuring its involvement in key university activities.
At UNL, that person is Karen Griffin, who has been Senate coordinator for six of her 23 years at the university. Because the Senate’s leadership changes each year, the continuity Karen provides is critical to effective participation of the Senate in shared governance. Understanding the complexity of Senate committees and university policies, and skill in organizing meetings are but two of the many assets she bring to this important position
