During the past year his efforts have saved tens of thousands of dollars for the university. Keith took it upon himself to check with peer universities and other large employers who provide pharmacy benefits to determine what types of product discounts and price breaks are common. Then he began to seek changes in the university's arrangements with its pharmacy vendor. He improved the university's discount rate, reduced the dispensing fee, and eliminated the fee for claims filed electronically. Collectively, these changes will have a significant long-term impact on the costs of the pharmacy plan.
