Sanjay SinghSanjay Singh
Department of Neurological Sciences
This KUDOS award goes to Sanjay Singh [San-jay Sing], Assistant Professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Department of Neurological Sciences.
Sanjay is fascinated by the cortex of the brain, the gray matter that makes individuals uniquely human. This area also gives rise to epilepsy, which affects 20,000 to 25,000 people in Nebraska alone. Of those 6,000 to 8,000 have intractable epilepsy which requires treatment at a comprehensive center.
Sanjay came to UNMC and opened the Nebraska Epilepsy Center two years ago. It is the only comprehensive center in Nebraska, Western Nebraska and South Dakota that treats patients, educates physicians and the public, and does research.
As a result more than 700 patients come from near and far. Of these one or two in a hundred will still have seizures. But through the help of Sanjay they are learning to lead normal lives.
Joining him today are Assistant Professor for Marketing and Management at UNO, Birud Sindhav [Bee-rood Sind-hav]; Epilepsy Nurse Coordinator, Sandy Roberts; and Chairman of the Department of Neurological Sciences, Pierre Fayad [Pee-air Fay-odd]. Please join me in recognizing Sanjay Singh’s [San-jay Sing’s] contributions to the state and surrounding region.
