British Comparative Criminal Justice Experience

UNO

On behalf of the Board of Regents, I am pleased to present a KUDOS award to British Comparative Criminal Justice Experience at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

The program, which is a two-week study-abroad trip, is part of UNO’s department of criminal justice. The program is one of the longest standing of its kind in the United States. The trip includes students from UNO, UNL, UNK, and Chadron State College. Each year, nearly 100 students take the trip, and more than 2,000 students have participated over the program’s 30-year history.

While in England, students visit Scotland Yard, the Metropolitan Police, observe trials in Magistrates Court, tour and observe trials in the Old Bailey Crown Criminal Court, take an escorted tour of #10 Downing Street, and visit maximum security prisons. The students attend seminars with police officials, trial judges, barristers, and prison wardens. Students also visit Oxford, Windsor, Cambridge, Stratford-on-Avon and Warwickshire, along with optional trips to Edinburgh, Paris and other European destinations.

The program is under the direction of UNO professor Bill Wakefield and assisted by Dr. Scott Sasse and Police Lt. Robert Miller.

I am please to award the British Comparative Criminal Justice Experience at the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a KUDOS award. Accepting the award today are B.J. Reed, dean of the College of Public Affairs and Community Service, and Bill Wakefield, professor of Criminal Justice.
