Mail Room Supervisor and Mail Regulation Clerk, UNK

Richard (Dick) Warnke and Stephen (Steve) Slominski serve the University of Nebraska at Kearney community through their work in the University Mail Room. They exemplify the spirit of cooperation, work ethic and commitment that meets–and exceeds–the standards for KUDOS recognition. As Mail Room Supervisor, Dick oversees the receipt, sorting and distribution of outgoing, incoming and internal mail. Steve is a Mail Regulations Clerk and supports the University in the procurement of goods and services, including mailroom and telecommunications services. For everyone at UNK, it is nearly impossible to think of Dick without thinking of Steve, and vice versa, and therefore, they are being honored jointly today. Dick came to UNK in 1991, and Steve has been with the University since 1993.

On a typical day, Dick and Steve handle nearly 4,000 pieces of mail. They also assist University employees and students in mailing letters and packages, and sending registered, certified, and insured mail. These services are particularly important to UNK’s international student population, and each year Dick and Steve organize a seminar for these students to instruct them on proper mailing procedures. Their cooperative, efficient, "can do" attitudes are what make this important campus unit operate so effectively.
