Manager of News, UNL

The Board of Regents is pleased to present a Kudos award to Kelly Bartling, manager of news in the office of University Communications at the University of Nebraska‐Lincoln. Kelly has served in the news department since June 1999 and was promoted to Manager of News in 2005.

During her tenure in News, Kelly has played a leadership role in handling hundreds of news stories and issues on behalf of the university. Additionally, she recently earned a Masters degree in Journalism and Mass Communications and since then has taught classes in Public Relations. She is well‐respected for her fine work and writing. Her ‘can‐do’ attitude has resulted in notable progress for the university in the areas of news media relations, national news, and in providing training for faculty, staff and administrators on best practices for conducting media interviews.

Kelly has played a leading role in organizing the Emergency Alert communications as well as for timely communications such as the H1N1 Flu outbreak. Kelly works effectively and collaboratively with UNL administrators, police, faculty and staff, often helping develop effective message points related to a current situation. Recently, she led a planning effort to reorganize internal communications for UNL resulting in savings for the university. Kelly is a smart, strategic thinker, and she has demonstrated over more than a decade of service that she is one of UNL’s very finest representatives.
