Clinical Veterinarian, UNMC

On behalf of the Board of Regents, I am pleased to present a KUDOS award to Dr. Tami R. Wells, Clinical Veterinarian at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. As a Clinical Veterinarian, Tami’s normal duties involve monitoring and providing veterinary care for research animals on the UNMC Campus.

Her nominator, and Director of Comparative Medicine, Steve Dixon, writes, “Dr. Wells provides sensitive and knowledgeable care based on the unique requirements and biology of these diverse species.” He further notes that Tami routinely devotes extra time to both the investigators and to the animals. Nominator and executive chair of the UNMC/UNO Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Jim Turpen, notes that in one particular case, Tami was responsible for the veterinary care and procedures of non‐human primates which occurred on the weekends and after hours. Tami participated in all aspects of the pre‐ and post procedural care and accompanied the investigator’s staff at all times.

According to her supervisor, Noel Johnson, Tami has made valuable contributions to the research enterprise at UNMC far beyond her clinical duties such as revising and implementing a comprehensive enhanced Behavioral Management Plan and Environment Enrichment Procedures for the non‐human primates used in research at UNMC.

Today, Tami has brought her husband, Jay Wells, her nominators, Dr. Steve Dixon and Dr. Jim Turpen and her supervisor, Dr. Noel Johnson. Please join me in thanking Dr. Tami Wells for her contributions to the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
