Carla does an outstanding job of managing the work of UNL Extension. She oversees the daily operations of work involving all 83 local Extension offices and the four Research and Extension Centers. This involves keeping accurate accounting of budget detail (federal, state and Foundation accounts), managing Extension promotion and tenure processes, and the partnerships with units throughout IANR and UNL.
Carla works to keep all team members engaged by acknowledging their individual strengths and how those strengths contribute to team goals. She consistently asks for opinions from each of the team members before making decisions impacting the unit. In addition, she works to ensure that the unit is seen positively among other units on campus and with the general public. All of these factors contribute to a more positive work environment.
While her day-to-day work is critical, of equal importance is Carla’s assistance in managing our work toward long-term goals. She helps remind us of our land-grant mission and keep the focus on our clientele. With nearly 25 years of service at the University of Nebraska, Carla’s knowledge of the university has proven invaluable.
Carla is accompanied today by her husband, Ray Werner, and Associate Dean of Extension Kathleen Lodl, who is representing Chuck Hibberd, Dean of Extension, and Jo Reining. Please join me in thanking Carla for her dedication to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and to the IANR Cooperative Extension Division.
