Accountability Measures
Strategic Framework: The University's strategic framework identifies specific, measurable goals in areas identified by the Board of Regents and university leadership as most important to the university's success. Each meeting of the Board includes a report on one or more of the 16 areas in which concrete measures of success have been established – using a business-based "dashboard" to show progress in areas such as tuition, financial aid, research growth, competitiveness of faculty salaries, diversity and workforce development, among others. The framework is a living document, with priorities re-evaluated and new priorities added as needed.

Voluntary System of Accountability: this program, developed by the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, provides consistent information to prospective students and parents about U.S. four-year colleges and universities, including cost of attendance, academic programs, performance on key measurements such as graduation and retention rates, housing and safety. Four-year Graduation Guarantee: based on a mutual commitment from students and the university, this program guarantees that students who follow certain guidelines will be able to graduate in four years. Students are advised to take a full course load every semester, decide early on a major, work with their advisor, work fewer than 20 hours per week, and register early for courses. If students follow these guidelines and find that courses they need to graduate in a timely fashion are not available, the university will find a suitable substitute to allow the student to remain on track for a four-year graduation goal.

Student Information System: with a goal of maximizing the use of information technology to achieve our mission, we are implementing a new student information system in Fall 2009. The new system will eliminate redundancies in certain areas of student record management and create a more effective system to manage the entire student experience, including recruitment, financial aid, housing, academic progress and course registration. The new system replaces one that was not going to be supported beyond 2011, and also serves the Nebraska State College System.

National Survey of Student Engagement: NU’s three undergraduate campuses participate in this national survey of undergraduate quality, which provides meaningful, comparable information about level of academic challenge, faculty-student interaction, active and collaborative learning, enriching educational experiences and supportive campus environment.
