Linda Ray Pratt was appointed executive vice president and provost of the University of Nebraska on March 9, 2007, having served in an interim capacity since July 2006. A professor of English and former department chair at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, she joined the faculty in 1968. She previously served as interim dean of the UNL College of Arts and Sciences, and also received the college's Distinguished Teaching Award. She received her bachelor's degree from Florida Southern College and her master's degree and Ph.D. from Emory University. She is a past national president of the American Association of University Professors and the Association of Departments of English. She chaired the 1997 University-wide Gender Equity Task Force and is a former chair of the UNL Chancellor's Commission on the Status of Women. She currently chairs the National Academic Rights and Responsibilities Committee of the Modern Language Association of America.

In addition to scholarly publications in the field of Victorian and modern poetry, Dr. Pratt has written widely on subjects related to higher education, including academic freedom, policies on part-time and full-time faculty, management of academic institutions and the fiscal structure of higher education.
